Curriculum

The Practical Life area bridges the gap from the home to the school. When working with these materials your child develops independence, self esteem, self motivation and responsibility, refinement of small and large muscles, which is the indirect preparation for writing.

The Sensorial Materials provide the concrete examples of impressions that were made in infancy. This work isolates one concept at a time and allows the child to acquire the necessary vocabulary; this is the foundation for work with the Math and Language materials.

As a sensitive period for Language Materials develops, the sand-paper letters are introduced. These are kinaesthetic and are the key for the child to analyze words through a phonetic system. Reading readiness skills, language patterns, blends, phonogram, site words are introduced as the child becomes more confident.

Working with Math Materials is a natural progression, moving from the concrete to the abstract. The child absorbs the concepts by working with concrete materials.

All the information that the child acquires in the Montessori classroom is consistently reinforced within the environment. They are explored when using Geography, Biology, and Science Materials; Cultural studies open the door to the wonders of our world around us.
